Founded in Baltimore, Maryland in the 1950s by Howard Head the company first concentrated on the manufacture of skis. Not long afterward they were considered to be the leading ski manufacturer in both the United States and Great Britain. It was in the 1960s that Head created a tennis division because the founder, Howard Head, had discovered a way to strengthen the racket through the introduction of the aluminum frame. The innovation proved a universal success and was introduced to the world stage in the 1969 United States Open.
In the same year, the company signed the Olympic Ski racing champion, Jean-Claude Killy to endorse a new metal and fiberglass ski, aptly called the Killy 800. The company went on to develop a whole product range of Killy skis.
It was in the late 1980s that the company turned its attention to developing athletic footwear. They introduced the “Radical Tennis Shoes” in the same year. A year later the company opened another plant in Austria for the express purpose of manufacturing tennis rackets.
It was not until the late 1990s that Head created the first ever titanium and graphite tennis racket. The technology used in the racket ensured the design and it became an instantaneous bestseller. Three more companies were acquired over the next couple of years namely: DACOR, BLAX, and PENN.
In the year 2007 Head launched a new modern look for the brand and also started embarking on the manufacturing of Head badminton gear such as:

- Badminton shoes
The logo was modified and the company seemed to get a whole new attitude in the process making it far more noteworthy and recognizable.
